      British Amateur champion (1977, '78). Walker Cup player (1977, '79, '81, '85, '89). Walker Cup captain (1999, 2001). Silver Medal winner as low amateur at The Open Championship (1978, '79). Appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, OBE (2003).

      Golf course design

      McEvoy has worked on several design and redesign projects. He is best known for his work in Ireland, notably Fota Island GC and Rathsallagh GC (both co-designed with Christy O'Connor Jr), as well as solo designs for New Forest GC, Powerscourt GC (East course), Seafield GC and Woodbrook GC (redesign). Among other notable projects he also designed The Kendleshire (Badminton-nine) in England and Desert Springs GC in southern Spain.

      Peter McEvoy is one of the finest British amateur golfers of all time. In the post-war era he sits comfortably amongst an elite group that includes the likes of Sir Michael Bonallack, Joe Carr and Gary Wolstenholme. Born in London, McEvoy spent much of his childhood living near Turnberry in Scotland, where his father was a member of the famous golf course. His home club became Copt Heath GC near Birmingham, when he was aged 13.

      During an outstanding career as an amateur golfer, McEvoy won the Amateur Championship in 1977 at Ganton, and successfully defended the title the following year at Royal Troon. In 1978 he became the first British amateur to make the cut at The Masters Tournament, and remains the last British Amateur to do so.

      His contribution to Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) team golf has been immense. Amongst many highlights, he played in the Walker Cup team on five occasions and captained the team to victories in 1999 and 2001 (on both occasions by a margin of 15 to 9).
