In 2011, his freshman year at UCLA, Cantlay was a four-time tournament winner. At the end of that year he won the Haskins Award as the most outstanding college golfer in the United States. He holds the record (54 weeks) for the most consecutive weeks as the world's No.1 ranked amateur golfer (a global ranking that was introduced in 2007).

Played as the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open (Nov 2-5; PGA Tr 2018 season). 25-year-old Cantlay (USA) beat Alex Cejka (Ger) and Whee Kim (S Kor) with a par at the second playoff hole (par-4 18th).
