Roll of Honour

MAJORS (3): US LPGA Ch'ship (1978, '85, '89). Curtis Cup player (1976). Solheim Cup player (1990). Solheim Cup captain (2005). Total professional wins (52), including LPGA Tour (48). LPGA leading money winner (1978, '79, '85). Old Tom Morris Award (2000, GCSAA). World Golf Hall of Fame (inducted in 1989).

Did you know?

Lopez' tremendous talent for golf showed early. She won the New Mexico Women's Amateur aged 12, and the US Girls' Junior aged 15 and 17. As an 18-year old amateur, she came second in the US Women's Open in 1975. She left the University of Tulsa after her second year, turning professional in 1977.

In 1978, her first full season on the LPGA Tour, Lopez won nine times, and was showered with honours including the Vare Trophy for low scoring average, Rookie of the Year, Player of the Year and Leading Money Winner. 1979 was another hugely succesful year. Although one of the greats of the LPGA Tour from the late '70s to early '90s, Lopez won only three major championships, and did not win the U.S. Women's Open (although she finished second four times).

Lopez retired from regular tournament play in 2002. An attempted comeback in 2007 and 2008 was largely unsuccessful. Her company, Nancy Lopez Golf, makes a full line of women's clubs, apparel and accessories. She has occasionally worked in golf television commentary.
