Known by some as "The Grinder", Furyk turned professional in 1992, joining the PGA Tour in 1994. Between 1998 and 2003 he won at least one tournament a year on the Tour, and several more thereafter. A world Top 10 player for much of his playing career, Furyk was appointed the U.S. captain for the 2018 Ryder Cup.
Furyk's biggest win to date came in the 2003 U.S. Open. In the process of winning his first major championship, he tied the record for the lowest 72-hole score in U.S. Open history. In 2016 his name was again etched into the record books, this time as the first player to shoot 58 for a single round in a PGA Tour event. It also made him the first PGA Tour player to have two sub-60 rounds to his name.
Making his debut in, and winning the 2021 US Senior Open, Furyk became the eighth player to win both the US Open and US Senior Open Championships, joining the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Billy Casper and Gary Player.
Furyk's unconventional, looping golf swing has served him well. During his amateur and professional career, he has had only one swing coach and mentor - his father, Mike. Jim lives in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, not far from TPC Sawgrass.
