Evans retired from competitive golf in 2006 due to recurring back and shoulder injuries. Although a solid and consistent competitor on the European Tour from 1992 to 2004, he never crossed the finishing line in first place. The highlight of his career came in the 2002 Open Championship at Muirfield. He finished just one shot outside a four-man playoff, which was eventually won by Ernie Els.
