Nicknamed “Bones”, due to his tall, slender stature, Don January turned pro in 1956, at age 26. He went on to win 10 PGA Tour titles, including the 1967 PGA Championship. He also earned the Vardon Trophy for the PGA of America's lowest scoring average (70.56) in 1976 at age 47. He represented the USA Ryder Cup team in both 1965 and 1977.
After turning 50, January enjoyed tremendous success on the Senior PGA Tour, winning 22 times including two PGA Seniors’ Championships. He won the inaugural Byron Nelson Award (for the lowest season stroke average on the Senior Tour), and won it again in 1982, '83, '84 and finally in 1985. Three times he topped the Senior Tour money list, earning $44,100 in 1980, $237,571 in 1983, and $328,597 in 1984. His last Senior PGA Tour win came in 1987 at the Senior Tournament of Champions.
