FLC Ha Long Bay Golf Club & Luxury Resort: An hour's drive from the centre of Hai Phong, and set on hills 2 km behind the coastline, FLC's Ha Long Golf Club is the centrepiece of a luxury resort. From here the foreground is dominated by the old city of Ha Long, behind which lies the extraordinary Ha Long Bay ... a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring thousands of limestone karsts and islands in all manner of shapes and sizes. Marine views as spectacular as this one are rare.
The recently opened Brian Curley layout offers amazing vistas onto the bay, as well as plenty to focus on within the layout itself. The course expansively journeys out from the clubhouse in two loops (one of eight holes and one of ten), weaving its way through the tree-lined hills ... although several pockets of residential housing are springing-up along the way.
The layout offers generally good-width landing areas, with plenty of dramatic fairway and greenside bunkering. The short holes are particularly eye-catching, with all five having panoramas of the East Vietnam Sea.
The world-class 120-yard 12th is especially memorable, and is swiftly followed by the longer drop-down par-3 13th. Other holes are laid out around an eclectic mix of cliffs and valleys.
