Woodlands Resort, TX
The Woodlands Resort is home to two championship golf courses, located at its Trails property (formerly known as The Golf Trails at the Woodlands). Now part of The Woodlands Country Club offering of five courses, the resort's North course (previously known as the Panther course) heads "out-and-back" from the resort centre, as does its neighbour, the West course (formerly known as the Oaks course).
In addition to The Woodlands Resort courses (North and West), The Woodlands Country Club also operates the private Tournament, Player and Palmer courses. These are also located in the outer-Houston suburb of The Woodlands.
The often higher-rated North course was originally laid out by Joe Lee and Robert Von Hagge, and substantially renovated by Roy Case in 2002. The course is characterised by large greenside and fairway bunkers, gently rolling fairways and tall Carolina pine lining every hole. There's plenty of water to be avoided on the challenging back-nine, not least at the island green par-4 18th.
Complementing the North course is the also championship length West course, which features generous fairways, and large rolling greens with substantial greenside bunkering. Bordering Lake Harrison, the par-4 18th hole epitomises the natural beauty and inherent challenges of West course.
