Horseshoe Bay (Slick Rock)
The Horseshoe Bay Resort is home to four 18-hole championship golf courses. Located at the Cap Rock clubhouse are the Apple Rock and highly-rated Ram Rock courses, both designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The Slick Rock course, another RTJ Sr design, is located four miles away. The private Jack Nicklaus-designed Summit Rock course is three miles from the Cap Rock clubhouse.
The Slick Rock course is a well-rated and pleasantly testing layout. This tree-lined parkland course should not disappoint, with many attractive features and several excellent holes to enjoy. Slick Rock spans roams across 170 acres, with more than 71 bunkers and 12 water hazards to navigate along the way.
The front-nine is routed through colourful outcroppings of Texas granite and a wonderful mixture of trees, including native oak, persimmon, willow, chinese tallow and eldarica pine. The back-nine is more open and rolling.
Slick Rock is home to Horseshoe Bay's “million dollar hole,” the short par-4 14th, which features a winding cart path that takes you through a waterfall. Plenty of golfing challenge, a well-crafted design and usually good upkeep all contribute to the appeal of this course. One to include on your play list if you are in the area.
Outside visitor play on Horseshoe Bay's courses is restricted to guests staying at the Horseshoe Bay Resort, who can book to play on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.
Non-metal spike facility. Golf carts compulsory.
