Grossinger Country Club (Big G course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1925

Grossinger Country Club's Big G course is a well-rated and always popular layout. This tree-lined and open parkland course should not disappoint, with many attractive features and several excellent holes to enjoy. Don’t let the drive up the hill past the abandoned hotel dull your senses or expectations for golf at Grossinger. This is still one of the best courses in the Catskill Mountains, and one to include on your play list if you are in the area.

Did you know?

The abandoned hotel you see on your way up to the golf is the former Grossinger's Catskill Resort Hotel, which closed in 1986. In its day, the resort, which was the vision of Asher Selig Grossinger, attracted many celebrities and up to 150,000 guests a year. During his fighting days Rocky Marciano would train at the resort. In 1952, Grossinger's reputation grew as it became the first ski resort in the world to use artificial snow. However, in the late 1970s and 80s, resorts like Grossinger proved unable to attract younger guests, falling into decline and eventual closure, with only the golf course remaining open (as it does to this day).
