St George's Golf and Country Club: with the intention that it was to become his own private course, famed architect Devereux Emmet commissioned and designed the layout at this revered New York club in 1917. The course has recently been restored by Gil Hanse, one of today's top designers.
Located close to Stony Brook University on Long Island, Emmet's home course has truly withstood the test of time. St George’s is known today, as in its early days, for firm fairways, small greens and numerous bunkers. The prolific and often geometric bunkering is not unlike that found on the designs of Emmet's friend and mentor Charles Blair Macdonald. [A private club, exclusively for the use of members and their invited guests].
Private club - guests may only play if hosted by a member.
St George’s “founding father” was Devereux Emmet, the wealthy golf course architect, accomplished amateur golfer and close friend of Charles Blair Macdonald, the father of American golf course architecture. As this course was going to be Emmet's own course, where he could entertain his friends and family, he spent considerable time in getting it right.
Once the decision was made to proceed with the project, Emmet conducted a study of various parcels of property and identified the present site, approximately three miles from his own sprawling estate. 140 acres of land were purchased at $300 per acre. Emmet then designed and oversaw the building of course. He became the Greens Committee Chairman for the first ten years and won the club championship on three occasions.
124th US Open: the No.2 Course at Pinehurst once again plays host to this most illustrious championship (June 13-16). Wyndham Clark defends his title, having won at Los Angeles CC in 2023.
79th Women’s US Open: the second women’s major championship of the season gets underway at Lancaster CC in Pennsylvania. It’s the second time the championship has been held here.
(May 30-June 2).
Nelly Korda: won the Mizuho Americas Open (May 16-19) at Liberty National GC, continuing her extraordinary form in LPGA events. This was her sixth win in seven starts in 2024.
Xander Schauffele: recorded his first major championship win, and second record-equalling low score of 62 in a major. Only he, Branden Grace, Rickie Fowler and Shane Lowry have achieved this feat in a men’s major championship.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
