Prouts Neck (formerly Prout's Neck, and for a while Libby's Neck), is commonly referred to by local residents simply as "Prouts". Its name comes from Timothy Prout, a Boston merchant, who lived there for 40 years from 1728. Of the many luxury hotels that were once located on Prouts (including the renowned Jocelyn and Checkley hotels), only the Black Point Inn remains.
