Nantucket GC
Nantucket Golf Club: this relatively recent arrival on Nantucket ("The Grey Lady" as the island is often called), sits some distance inland from the coastline. Notwithstanding the absence of sea views onto "in-coming tides and Atlantic waves", renowned designer Rees Jones has crafted an excellent "open links-style" course here. Arguably, its one of his best designs.
There's many a seaside course that could be described as a wild golfing adventure amongst the dunes. Here at this very private and exclusive club, things might feel a little more restrained and noticeably preened. But the layout still provides a golfing challenge to thoroughly enjoy ... should you secure that all-important member's invite to play
Limited access: this private course is generally playable only by members and their invited guests.
Private club; visitors/guests may only play if hosted by a member.
Excellent
Nantucket's eponymous golf club is located on the southeast corner of this popular and upmarket Atlantic-facing island. Here the whaling industry once flourished, and from here Herman Melville's legendary Captain Ahab and his whaling ship Pequod set out to do battle with a larger than life white whale, Moby Dick.
Directly next door to Nantucket GC you'll find the historic nine-hole Siasconset Golf Course (established in 1899, and pronounced "Sconset"). It is thought to be the oldest privately owned golf course open to the public in the US. From its fairways you might just be able to glimpse a hole or two of the very private Nantucket GC.
