Lake Placid (Links)
The Lake Placid Club is home to two championship layouts, the Links and Mountain courses. Both are well-rated and popular courses. The Links is a tree-lined and open parkland course, with several holes exuding a British links-style character. It is a layout that should not disappoint, with many attractive features and several excellent holes to enjoy. The course occupies a lower elevation than its companion Mountain course.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends during golf season (April thru' Oct).
Must book in advance.
Non-metal spike facility. Walking permitted.

The Links course at Lake Placid was designed by Scotman Seymour Gourlay Dunn. Though settled in the U.S. at the age of twelve, Dunn designed golf courses in both America and Europe. Included in his European designs, were courses laid out for some of continental Europe's nobility, not least King Leopold of Belgium, the Rothschilds in France and King Emmanuel of Italy.
Dunn came from a strong Scottish golfing family that included Willie Dunn Sr and his twin brother Jamie, born in Musselburgh in 1821. Willie Dunn's two sons, Tom Dunn and Willie Dunn Jr, also became prominent golf professionals, club makers and course designers.
Tom Dunn married Isabella Gourlay; among their children was Seymour Dunn, born 1882 (most probably in his father's club maker's workshop, beside the first tee at North Berwick Golf Club).
