Garden City GC
Garden City Golf Club (not to be confused with nearby Garden City Country Club, also off Stewart Avenue, and also a Walter Travis design) is home to one of the top-rated and finest championship golf courses in New York state. Notoriously, it remains one of the few male-only golf clubs in the USA.
In a relatively flat and linksy environment, this excellent "old school" links-style layout meanders out-and-back, from a short par-4 opening to the closing par-3 18th. In an open, almost treeless setting, the holes are riotously defended with bunkers of every imagineable shape and size. Staying out of the fairway lining rough, as much as the bunkers, will certainly help your score.
Limited access: the course at this private male-only club is generally playable only by members and their invited guest. Women are only exceptionally permitted to play at the discretion of the Committee.
Private club; male visitors/guests may only play if hosted by a member.
Walking permitted.
Good
The club was founded in 1899, and is also known as the "Garden City Men's Club" or simply the "Men's Club" to distinguish it from the Garden City Country Club, a nearby golf course. It remains one of the few men-only golf clubs in the United States.
In its early years Garden City hosted many top level tournaments, including the US Open Championship (1902), Walker Cup (1924) and four US Amateur Championships (1900, 1908, 1913, 1936) (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Garden City GC).
New York state's 12th best course (Golf Digest, 2023/24).
USA's 64th best course (Golf Digest, 2023).
World's 48th best course (GOLF Magazine, 2023/24).
124th US Open: the No.2 Course at Pinehurst once again plays host to this most illustrious championship (June 13-16). Wyndham Clark defends his title, having won at Los Angeles CC in 2023.
79th Women’s US Open: the second women’s major championship of the season gets underway at Lancaster CC in Pennsylvania. It’s the second time the championship has been held here.
(May 30-June 2).
Nelly Korda: won the Mizuho Americas Open (May 16-19) at Liberty National GC, continuing her extraordinary form in LPGA events. This was her sixth win in seven starts in 2024.
Xander Schauffele: recorded his first major championship win, and second record-equalling low score of 62 in a major. Only he, Branden Grace, Rickie Fowler and Shane Lowry have achieved this feat in a men’s major championship.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
