Course designer Lennie Myshrall was building golf courses from 1988. His first project was to clear the fairways at the new (but now defunct) Sable Oaks Golf Club in South Portland. He enjoyed the task so much he stuck around and helped build the greens, tees and drainage system. He stayed in golf course building and design from that time oneard.
In 1999 Myshrall closed in on his dream of designing an all-new 18-hole golf course. He partnered with Ed Michaud, Paul Lessard, and Ken Sullivan to purchase the 240 acres of land that would become Fox Ridge Golf Club. The course opened in 2001, and was quickly recognised as one of the best in the state. Fox Ridge hosted the Maine Open from 2006 to 2008.
