Fallen Oak
Fallen Oak Golf Course: When it comes to the best public-access golf course in the state of Mississippi, Fallen Oak vies with Old Waverly for top honours. However, like Old Waverly, you will need to be a member or a resort guest to sign-in and play here. In Fallen Oak's case the resort is the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, located 18 miles south in Biloxi.
This highly acclaimed Tom Fazio designed golf course is laid out in a wonderfully quiet, undisturbed area of natural woodland, without any roads or housing intruding on your round. Pleasantly undulating, good-width, rolling fairways create a relatively open parkland feel, sometimes lightly tree-lined, but never too densely.
The course-surrounding woodland, made up of oak, pine, magnolias and other indigenous tree varieties, is for the most part out of range, generally reachable only by the most wayward of shots.
A fabulous array of grass-fronted bunkering defines the holes and fiercely defends the excellent quality and typically large greens. Most of the bunkers are distinctively "fingered," with "walled" fingers protruding into and standing "proud" of the bunkers' sandy contents. The gently undulating terrain provides many elevated tee-boxes, from which the wonderful aesthetics of each hole can be admired and its challenges weighed-up.
Resort guests (staying at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino) can book to play on weekdays and weekends.
No outside visitor play available.
Walking permitted. Golf carts are fitted with GPS. Caddies available.
