Robert Trent Jones GC
The private Robert Trent Jones Golf Club is home to one of the top-rated and finest championship golf courses in Virginia. Often referred to as the "father of modern golf course architecture," Robert Trent Jones Snr (1906-2000), considered the course he designed and built here on the banks of Lake Manassas as his crowning masterpiece.
Jones envisioned a championship course that would provide a top competition course, as well as a prestigious golfing retreat in the Washington DC area. The Club duly hosted the first four Presidents Cups that were played in the United States, and all were won by the USA team. The course has also hosted the PGA Tour, and a Solheim Cup (2024).
In this serene and wonderfully scenic lakeside setting, half the holes play directly alongside the lake. Plenty of elevation change, stylish bunkering and beautifully crafted holes are hallmarks of this superb layout.
Limited access: this private course is generally playable only by members and their invited guests.
Private club; visitors/guests may only play if hosted by a member.
Excellent
Robert Trent Jones Golf Club played host to the first four Presidents Cups that were staged in the USA (1994, 1996, 2000 and 2005). During this time span, the event was also played at Royal Melbourne (1998) and the Fancourt Links in South Africa (2003). This team event is now firmly established in the world's golfing calender, and is played between the top 12 male professional players of the United States and the top 12 from the rest of the world (excluding Europe).
Also on the banks of Lake Manassas, to the west of the RTJ GC, you will find the public-access Tom Jackson-designed Stonewall Golf Club. To the east of RTJ GC, before its permanent closure in 2017, lay Virginia Oaks Golf Club. Its course had three or four lakeside holes.
