OakWing Golf Club: In the very centre of Louisiana, alongside the city of Alexandria, you'll find another of the Audubon Golf Trail's enjoyable and challenging championship courses. An excellent variety of holes and golfing challenges awaits the visitor to OakWing.
Although a predominantly open, parkland course, some stretches are routed alongside mature trees. Other holes are flanked by small lakes, while the middle of the back-nine occupies a distinctly open, links-like environment alongside a not overly busy aerodrome.
On the front-nine the par-4 3rd and long par-3 4th are tightly wrapped around a small lake. The closing four holes of this front-nine loop are also fiercely water defended. Beyond the green of the par-4 6th five mounted fighter aircraft provide an impressive backdrop, as well as a memorial to a former Air Force Base (see Did You Know section below).
This varied collection of well-bunkered, often water-defended and generally well-maintained holes continues through its suburban setting, with tall mature oaks, open countryside, wetlands, a bayou, schools, housing, an airfield, a cemetery and a couple of churches all adding to the varied scene alongside and beyond the course.
Good mounding and bunkering around the often sloping greens is never more in evidence than at the short par-4 5th, and at the attractive and assorted collection of par-3s. OakWing may not be top gun on the Audubon Trail, but it will provide an enjoyable round and good overall examination of your golfing skills.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.

OakWing GC is a member of Louisiana's Audubon Golf Trail. The Trail was established in 2001, and includes 18 of the best public-access courses in the state. [See our entry for Audubon Park (Did You Know section) for a list of the Audubon Golf Trail courses].
The club is located alongside a former United States Air Force facility that operated between 1942 and 1992. Originally known as Alexandria Army Air Base, it was renamed England Air Force Base in honour of Lt Col John Brooke England, a much decorated WW2 fighter pilot, who flew P-51 Mustangs.
The five mounted fighter aircraft in Heritage Park (alongside the 6th green) is a memorial to the Air Base and 23rd Fighter Wing (which incorporated the famous Flying Tigers).
124th US Open: the No.2 Course at Pinehurst once again plays host to this most illustrious championship (June 13-16). Wyndham Clark defends his title, having won at Los Angeles CC in 2023.
79th Women’s US Open: the second women’s major championship of the season gets underway at Lancaster CC in Pennsylvania. It’s the second time the championship has been held here.
(May 30-June 2).
Nelly Korda: won the Mizuho Americas Open (May 16-19) at Liberty National GC, continuing her extraordinary form in LPGA events. This was her sixth win in seven starts in 2024.
Xander Schauffele: recorded his first major championship win, and second record-equalling low score of 62 in a major. Only he, Branden Grace, Rickie Fowler and Shane Lowry have achieved this feat in a men’s major championship.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
