For several years from 1994 until 2006 Poipu Bay was the home of the Grand Slam of Golf, arguably the toughest PGA Tour event to qualify for. Established in 1979, the four invitees were the winners of that year's four major championships. The Grand Slam of Golf was a 36-hole strokeplay event conducted over two days, with the four players vying for a purse of well over a million dollars (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Poipu Bay).
