Trump Doral (Golden Palm)
Trump National Doral Golf Club (Golden Palm course): Setting out from Doral's impressive clubhouse, alongside the opening holes of the Red Tiger and Blue Monster courses, the Gold course takes you on an enjoyable out-and-back journey around this huge golfing estate. In a pleasant, partly tree-lined parkland setting, 16 of the 18 holes on this Von Hagge design are dangerously attended by small lakes and ponds.
With later substantial improvements made to the bunkering by Ray Floyd, and more recently by Gil Hanse, the Golden Palm course will give your game a thorough examination. It may lack the length and ferocity of Doral's famed Blue Monster, but its more subtle challenges will keep you on your toes.
The pleasing parkland character of the layout is reinforced by a liberal scattering of oaks, banyan and ficus. These, and many other tree varieties, give good definition to the holes without creating a sense of being too cramped or crowded. Where housing is present, mainly around the turn from the par-4 8th to the par-5 11th, it is unobtrusively set back on one side of each hole. On many occasions a good-size lake dangerously threatens the other side of each hole.
Staying dry will be your main objective, not least at the par-3s and many of the nicely dog-legging par-4s and 5s. Among the trickiest holes, the shortish par-4 18th is played to a testing and not overly large island green. This thoroughly enjoyable member of the Doral quartet provides an enjoyable golf outing; a course on which to hone your game (and try to stay out of the water), before taking on the tougher demands of the Blue Monster.

Excellent
Doral gets its name from DORis and AL Caskell who had the vision in the late 1950s to turn a large area of swamp to the west of Miami into what has become a stunningly successful golf and leisure resort.
The original names for the Doral courses - Blue, White, Gold, Red and Silver - are based on the colours typically used for the different sets of tees on Florida golf courses.
