Shark's Tooth
Shark's Tooth Golf Club: This scenic and challenging Greg Norman layout is part of a private members club, which also opens its doors to guests staying at the WaterColor Inn & Resort. Forming the centrepiece of the Wild Heron residential community, the course expansively weaves its way through a wonderfully natural pine-forest, rarely intruded upon by any housing.
The front-nine's relatively even terrain has not been overly enhanced by mounding, giving a generally flattish perspective to this outward loop. Lake Powell, one of the largest coastal dune lakes in Florida, provides the setting for the front-nine's signature duo, the long par-3 5th, and the tight and testing par-5 6th.
From the tees (and crossing some fairways) you'll need to take-on some testing carries over wetland areas. Beyond the usually good-width fairways, encounters with ever-present live oaks and loblolly pines may cost you a shot or two en route to the greens. Clusters of white-sand bunkers and sandy waste areas also pose a frequent threat.
Around the subtly sloping putting surfaces there's plenty of opportunity to exercise your chipping skills. Smooth run-off areas are more in evidence than clinging rough. On the attractive and more undulating back-nine, the par-5 13th, long par-3 14th and par-4 15th provide another wonderfully scenic stretch of holes, located directly alongside Lake Powell.
Pick of the holes: closing out your round, the fabulous par-4 18th is played towards the impressive clubhouse, which beautifully frames your approach to the final green.
Resort guests (staying at the WaterColor Inn, Camp Creek Inn, and WaterSound resort properties) can book to play Shark's Tooth on weekdays and weekends.
