PGA Golf Club (Wanamaker)
PGA Golf Club (Wanamaker course): Just off I-95 above Port St Lucie you'll find the PGA Golf Club and its three excellent championship courses. This fabulous triumvirate, comprising two layouts by Tom Fazio (the Ryder and Wanamaker) and one by Pete Dye, are owned and operated by the PGA of America.
Whereas Scottish flavours permeate the Dye, and Carolina characteristics are found in the Ryder course, the Wanamaker is a classic Florida layout. Set against a backdrop of wetlands, palm trees and palmettos, the course attractively weaves its way in two clockwise nine-hole loops.
An equal distribution of small lakes, wetland areas and housing flank the holes as they follow the gentle, natural contours of the flowing terrain. Large, often deep bunkers stand-out along the generally good-width fairways and around the large and undulating greens. When stylish bunkering is not guarding the putting surfaces, then water will doubtless be present to threaten your approach shots.
Although some housing is present, the Wanamaker has a mainly open and natural feel. Expansive wetland areas, stands of tall pine trees and a liberal scattering of stockier palms predominate. Some pleasant elevation changes are found at holes like the par-4 3rd and downhill par-3 6th.
The wonderfully elevated green at the short par-4 15th is well worth hitting rather than leaking right into a cavernously deep awaiting bunker. This classically Floridian fusion of small lakes, wetlands and occasional woodland is immaculately presented here on the Wanamaker.

PGA Golf Club's Wanamaker course takes its name from Rodman Wanamaker, the New York City department store magnate, who in 1916 inspired the birth of the PGA of America, and whose trophy is presented to the winner of the US PGA Championship, one of four Majors in the mens' professional game.
The PGA Village offers a "PGA Experience" like no other, with two other top quality championship courses, as well as a 6-hole pitch and putt course; the PGA Learning & Performance centre; state of the art practice, technology and fitness facilities; PGA of America Golf School and a PGA Historical Center (where you can see golf's four major Championship trophies on display).
The PGA Golf Club is an Audubon International Signature Status facility.
