PGA Golf Club (Dye course): Just off I-95 above Port St Lucie you'll find the PGA Golf Club and its three excellent championship courses. This fabulous triumvirate, comprising two layouts by Tom Fazio (the Ryder and Wanamaker) and one by Pete Dye, are owned and operated by the PGA of America.
With its gently rolling terrain, pine trees and challenging water hazards the Ryder course exudes a distinctly Carolina-feel. The 17th and 18th holes return to the clubhouse alongside the outbound 1st and 2nd holes, but beyond that the two nines make their own separate anti-clockwise loops around unobtrusive housing.
There is plenty of width here for big-hitters, with less aggressive (though still excellent) bunkering than on the Dye course and fewer water hazards than on the Wanamaker. The course benefits from the PGA Golf Club's all-round excellent standards of upkeep and presentation. And its the quietest of the courses at PGA Golf Club, being the farthest away from I-95.
On a back-nine brimming with wonderful golf holes, the par-3 12th is beautifully framed by a small pond, good bunkering and an elegant lonesome pine. A small hill just behind the par-3 16th tee provides a very pleasant look-out over several of the back and front-nine holes.
Pick of the holes: includes the good-length par-5 4th which is wrapped around a small lake, its oyster-shaped bunkers accentuating the hole's charm and challenge.
