JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort (Miller course): here at one of Miami's classiest resorts, you'll find two excellent championship courses, the Miller and Soffer courses (formerly called the North and South). Both layouts are playable by resort guests and members of the onsite Turnberry Isle Country Club.

Ray Floyd's redesign of the resort's two courses gave this luxury Miami resort two distinctly different layouts. Although shorter, more forgiving and lacking some of the landscaping and planting that characterises the Soffer (Turnberry's jewel in the crown), the Miller course is nonetheless an absorbing and excellent test of golf.

Towering condo blocks may look down on proceedings from outside the resort, but not so as to detract from the oasis-like character of the course. The holes are attractively defined by a liberal scattering of slender palms and black olive trees, while an excellent array of crater-like, white-sand bunkers hug the fairways and defend the immaculately maintained greens.

Water makes several telling appearances on the Miller's front-nine, becoming an even greater peril on the inward loop, where you journey around a good-sized lake from the par-3 12th to the excellent par-4 16th; all five of these holes are bounded by water on the rightside - a potential nightmare for slicers of the ball!

When water is not present, wayward shots will come to rest on grassy earthmounds, which is less penalising than catching the more abundant and thicker vegetation of the Soffer course. Again resonating with the Soffer course, the Miller's par-5 18th is memorably enhanced by a spectacular waterfall, with ficus trees and excellent bunkering also adding to the scenic finish.
