ChampionsGate (Intl)
ChampionsGate Golf Club (International course): The wonderfully natural setting at ChampionsGate is home to two great golf courses - the International and National. In addition the location boasts a towering, modern resort hotel and a marvellously varied range of birdlife (including a resident bald eagle).
The International course is certainly up there with Orlando's best. This excellently crafted course contains all the hallmarks of an authentic, British links-style layout. The flowing, rolling fairways are beset with small but menacing pot bunkers, while an abundance of these small, straight-faced sand traps also pose a significant greenside threat.
Rolling dune-like mounding defines the holes, which you launch into from neat, square-cut tee-boxes. Unlike the majority of British links layouts, expanses of water also come into the equation on several occasions.
Among many excellent holes the par-5 3rd carries distinct resemblances to the par-5 14th at Royal St George's in England, with OB all the way up the right side, and a heavily bunker-defended elevated green as your eventual target. This Greg Norman design lays down the full array of golfing challenges, in a setting that is markedly different from many of its Florida peers.
