Daufuskie Is (Melrose)
The Melrose Golf Club (formerly Melrose Resort): Difficult to fully understand the turbulent recent past of the golf courses on Daufuskie Island. It appears the Melrose course is on its way back to reopening in 2025, following closure since 2019. Meanwhile the Bloody Point course would appear to have closed (in 2018?). Haig Point remains solidly open, but private. (Advisable to check current status of the courses before planning a golf trip to Daufuskie Island).

[Original Where2Golf description, before Melrose's 2019 closure, and 2025 reopening?]: With not a car in sight and barely a house in view, a real treat awaits golfers who journey out to the natural splendour of Daufuskie Island. A short ferry ride across Calibogue Sound from Hilton Head Island, brings you to this small forested island, and its three golf courses: the public-access resort courses of Melrose and Bloody Point, and the private Haig Point course.
Often regarded as the gem on Daufuskie Island, the Nicklaus-designed Melrose course closes with a wonderful stretch of three holes along the seashore. Each of these closing holes provides wonderful views across to Hilton Head Island and Harbor Town, and also out onto Calibogue Sound and the Atlantic Ocean bryond.
The build-up to the three signature holes is thoroughly enjoyable and challenging. Most of the course meanders through a mixed woodland of towering firs and mighty oaks, as well as several wetland areas. Water hazards do not dominate the course, although there is a nerve-wracking "Amen Corner" starting at the par-4 7th, which brings water and wetlands seriously into play, and requires your best shot-making.
With the added pleasure of a scenic ferry ride out to Daufuskie Island (and/or a stay at the Melrose Resort) this is one of the best golfing attractions in the South Carolina lowlands. Really worth a visit anytime you are in the area ( ... even if the green-keeping here is not as pristine as on many of the Hilton Head courses).
Check with Club as and when it reopens.
Walking permitted.

Daufuskie Island lies at the southernmost tip of South Carolina on the Atlantic coast, between Hilton Head Island, SC and Tybee Island GA. Just south of Daufuskie (the native American Muscogee word for "sharp feather"), is the outflow of the Savannah River.
Estimated to be between 80,000 and 120,000 years old, Daufuskie Island has been inhabited for nearly 4,000 years. With no bridge to the mainland and access only by water, many of the island’s historical artifacts and much of its natural beauty have remained unspoiled and intact.
