Sea Trail (Byrd)
Sea Trail Golf Resort (Willard Byrd course): With three almost equal-length championship courses to choose from at Sea Trail, visiting golfers will no doubt find their own favourite, and the course that most suits their game.
The Willard Byrd is an enjoyable and varied layout, which comprises several tree-lined holes, and others in more open environments alongside small lakes. On a number of occasions the more wooded holes will require accurate shots from the tee, either to hit tightish fairways, or to get in position for dog-legs into the greens, especially at the par-4 4th and 15th holes. The best stretch of waterside holes features a good-size lake (complete with fountain), which comes into play on the par-3 12th hole, then again at the excellent par-5 13th requiring a carry over water onto the green; the same lake dangerously flanks the left side of the par-4 14th.
This is not a course with too much elevation change, but it nonetheless provides a pleasant and challenging round for golfers of all levels. Plenty of quite shallow fairway and greenside bunkering is complemented by large sandy waste areas that come into play on a couple of holes. Houses and condos are tucked in behind the tree-line on several sections of the course.
The Byrd's closing stretch provides a fitting climax to your round with the bunker surrounded par-3 16th, then water very much in play on the par-4 17th and even more so on the par-5 closing hole, which finishes behind Sea Trail's large pink-stoned conference centre.
