Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort (Resort course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1995

Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort (Resort course): Taking its name from a large stream that slices through the impressive San Jacinto mountain range, Tahquitz Creek is home to two testing and distinctly different golf courses.

The out-and-back layout of the Resort course edges you ever-closer to the spectacular mountains, creating a wonderfully rugged and scenic backdrop to many holes. At times desert-style, at others more resort-style, the layout is pleasantly undulating, without any dramatically significant elevation changes.

The excellently maintained fairways are separated by large expanses of not overly penal grassy rough, while the holes themselves are flanked by a mix of desert and parkland, rarely does housing make an appearance.

Although real estate is relatively absent, water is not, especially on the front-nine and the closing pair on the back-nine. An island fairway needs to be accurately hit at the challenging par-4 7th, while palm trees often signal the threat of water, especially around several of the par-3's. The 8th is one of the prettiest of the short holes, a tumbling, flower-filled waterfall joining into a small lake in front of the green.

The Resort course contains a mix of good quality bunkering with several pot bunkers awaiting wayward approach shots to the smallish, top-quality greens. With sandy waste areas and occasional river washes also to be navigated on your way round, Tahquitz Creek's No.1 course will give your game a thorough workout. Beyond the course there's also impressive views onto the San Jacinto mountain range, which rises up a mile or so from the course.

Tahquitz Peak (almost 9,000 feet above sea level), as well as the Valley, Creek and Falls of the same name, are well-known to local hikers who follow the trails in the San Jacinto mountains.

The San Bernardino and San Jacinto ranges are home to Southern California's highest and most rugged mountains, San Jacinto Peak reaching up to almost 11,000 feet above sea level. Desert cactus and pine trees, snow-capped peaks and palm oases, are all to be found in close proximity in this unique mountain and desert environment.
