Tahquitz Creek (Legend)
Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort (Legend course): Named after a large stream that slices through the impressive San Jacinto mountain range, Tahquitz Creek is home to two enjoyable and distinctly different golf courses.
The Legend course started life in 1959 as the Palm Springs Municipal Golf Course, and is a relatively easy-going, resort-style layout. Weaving through a community of single-storey housing, the holes are generally quite flat, often characterised by good-width (sometimes very generous) fairways. The rough and bunkering is never too penal, although stiffer bunker defences are to be found around the slightly elevated and often smallish greens.
With many nicely tree-lined holes, and the spectacular San Jacinto mountains never far way in the background, there are some good-looking stretches on this layout, especially on the back-nine, which makes a large anti-clockwise loop around the neighbourhood.
The 1st and 10th, both similar looking par-4s, require tee-shots over a river-wash, which also cuts across the 14th, 17th and 18th holes. The 2nd and 11th, also twin-like par-4's, run in parallel before each nine heads-off in a different direction. The par-3 12th is the only hole where water threatens (although even here it is not too dangerously), while the par-3 9th is one of the more memorable holes, fiercely ringed with bunkers.
With Palm Springs airport just a mile away you might get one or two fly-pasts, but nothing that should be too disruptive to your game.

Tahquitz Peak (almost 9,000 feet above sea level), as well as the Valley, Creek and Falls of the same name, are well-known to local hikers who follow the trails in the San Jacinto mountains. The San Bernardino and San Jacinto ranges are home to Southern California's highest and most rugged mountains, San Jacinto Peak reaching up to almost 11,000 feet above sea level. Desert cactus and pine trees, snow-capped peaks and palm oases, are all to be found in close proximity in this unique mountain and desert environment. The river wash that cuts across the 1st, 10th, 14th, 17th and 18th holes on the Legend course originates in Murray Canyon in the San Jacinto mountains, and joins into the White Water Wash which flows through the Coachella Valley and out into the Salton Sea (California's largest inland lake).
