Redhawk, CA
Redhawk Golf Club presents one of the tougher golfing tests in the area around Temecula. Laid out in two anti-clockwise loops that journey out-and-back from the clubhouse, most of the holes, or pairs of holes, are lined on both sides by real estate. The housing, however, is generally perched above the course and sits unobtrusively out of harm's way.
The layout itself is excellent, well-maintained and always challenging. Some of the often tightish and nicely undulating fairways are lightly tree-lined, others more open. Excellent quality bunkering often poses a threat to tee and approach shots alike. Accuracy and good course management is needed throughout, especially at holes like the par-5 1st, par-4 3rd and closing par-5 18th, where water lurks dangerously close to the greens. At other times large sandy waste areas and clusters of stylish bunkers pose the threat.
Among an outstanding collection of one-shot holes, Fream has incorporated two island greens into his design. The par-3 8th is a gem, played downhill to a water-surrounded green, and accessed by a picturesque, three-arch bridge (not dissimilar to that found at Augusta National's famous 12th hole). At Redhawk's par-3 12th, it is sand rather than water that surrounds the island green.
Even with the ever-present housing, you will enjoy many pleasant views onto hills and mountains, near and far, while the golf course has many attractive and challenging holes that will demand your full attention.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.

Good
Redhawk has hosted many top level golf tournaments and PGA Tour qualifying events, including several California State Open Championships.
The course was designed by renowned golf course architect Ronald (Ron) Fream, who began his career with Robert Trent Jones, Sr. in 1966. Fream later established Golfplan, a leading golf course planning and architectural company together with David Dale, who joined Fream in 1988, and Kevin Ramsey who joined in 1999.
The Golfplan team's broad range of experience has encompassed (in their words), "the garlic fields of Gilroy, California to the Pine Barrens of New Jersey; from standalone golf courses to thousand home communities; to the Arctic Circle in Finland to the tropical heat of Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand to the Sahara desert of Tunisia and Egypt."
