Palos Verdes
Palos Verdes Golf Club: This semi-private course on the exclusive Palos Verdes Peninsula, is predominantly a members course not generally on the visiting golfers' trail. Tee-times are only available to visitors in the afternoons, and the green fee is not cheap.
If you are inclined to play here, you'll find a pleasant, well-maintained parkland layout that roams its way across undulating terrain, with tall eucalyptus and pine trees giving a lightly wooded feel to many of the holes. The Pacific Ocean can occasionally be glimpsed in the distance through the trees, especially from the layout's higher elevations.
In this quiet, up-market neighbourhood the golf course maintains an agreeably natural feel, with decorative shrubs and bushes complementing the towering trees. The elevation changes play a key part in creating many good looking and challenging holes, the plunging par-3 2nd just one of many fine examples.
Although quite short at just over 6200 yards from the back-tees, Palos Verdes will probe and test your all round game. Stylish, raised-faced bunkers defend many of the greens, while a few blind drives and some tightish fairways require accuracy from the tee. Hitting the relatively small greens in regulation continually puts the accent on good course management and accurate shot-making.
Visitors welcome on weekdays: after 1pm (Tues, Thur) and after 2pm (Mon, Weds, Fri). No outside visitor play at weekends.
Must book in advance.
Non-metal spike facility.

Rancho Palos Verdes is an exclusive beachfront residential enclave in a hidden corner of greater Los Angeles. This secluded peninsula on the southern tip of Santa Monica Bay, comprises a mix of rolling hills and multi-million-dollar homes.
The peninsula was originally inhabited by Native Americans belonging to the Tongva (also called Gabrielino) tribe, and was first described in 1542 by Portuguese explorer Juan Cabrillo. In 1827, Don Jose Dolores Sepulveda procured a parcel of the original land grant, and named it Rancho de los Palos Verdes ("range of green trees"). Palos Verdes Estates was the first city incorporated on the Peninsula and was one of the first master planned communities in Los Angeles County.
