Mission Hills Country Club

Private: A course for members and their invited guests only.

Est. 1972

The private Mission Hills Country Club is home to three championship golf courses, separately designed by Pete Dye, Arnold Palmer and Desmond Muirhead. The club's neighbour, the Westin Rancho Mirage Resort (formerly called the Westin Mission Hills Resort), is also home to a Pete Dye design.

The Muirhead-designed layout at Mission Hills CC, originally called the Old Course, and now the Dinah Shore Tournament course, was for many years home to an LPGA major, the Nabisco Dinah Shore Championship (see Did You Know section). The course is rated one of the best in the Coachella Valley, and culminates in the heavily water-defended 646-yard par-5 18th, with an island green sitting right in front of the clubhouse.

The Arnold Palmer Signature course measures 6,834 yards from the tips and is a Mission Hills Country Club member favourite. The Pete Dye Challenge (originally called the Dinah Shore course, until that title was moved to the Tournament course) weighs in at 6,955 yards from the back tees. The design incorporates big waste areas and bunkers large enough to make this Rancho Mirage golf course a real test of skill.

Limited access: this private course is generally playable only by members and their invited guests.

Did you know?

The Dinah Shore Tournament Course designed by Desmond Muirhead, played host to one of the four major LPGA championships from 1972 until 2022. Over the years the event was known as Colgate Dinah Shore Winners Circle (1972-81), Nabisco Dinah Shore (1982-2001), Kraft Nabisco Championship (2002-14), ANA Inspiration (2015-21), and Chevron Championship (2022). To the surprise of many, in 2023 the Chevron Championship (as it was then called) was moved to the Club at Carlton Woods near Houston, Texas.

While at Mission Hills, the Nabisco Dinah Shore ended with the winner and her entourage taking a victory leap into the famed "Poppie's Pond" alongside the 18th green. It was Amy Alcott who started the tradition in 1988, jumping into the pond to celebrate the second of her three wins in the Nabisco Dinah Shore.

Poppie's Pond, part of a small lake that defends the 18th hole on the Tournament course, was named in honour of former Tournament Director, Terry Wilcox. He was known by his many grandchildren as "Poppie".
