Heritage Palms
Heritage Palms Golf Club: This immaculately presented, classic Palm Desert golf course weaves its way through a retirement community of neat, single-storey homes. Many of the houses provide wonderful splashes of colour around the course, with plenty of bougainvillea and other colourful flowers adorning their gardens. Beautiful mountain backdrops, add to the picturesque views.
Neither overly spectacular nor dramatic, Heritage Palms is always easy on the eye.The pristine fairways are flanked by swathes of not overly penal grassy rough, giving you plenty of space to work the ball from the tee.
Palm trees are liberally scattered alongside many holes and around the greens, while a few nicely "groomed" areas of desert provide a reminder of the area's origins. Not overly deep, white-sand bunkers provide the main defences to the excellent, well-paced and subtly-sloping greens.
Water makes brief but telling appearances, skirting alongside some of the greens, as at the par-3 8th and 14th holes, and the par-4 4th. A small creek runs the full length of the par-4 18th. The very good par-5 7th and par-4 12th are unusual in that they incorporate modest elevation changes; more typically the holes are laid out on relatively flat terrain.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.
Golf carts compulsory.
Excellent
Heritage Palms is located at the heart of the Coachella Valley, which is home to the renowned tourist and golfing meccas of Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indio, La Quinta, Bermuda Dunes, Rancho Mirage, Desert Hot Springs and Cathedral City.
The valley extends for approximately 45 miles, from the San Bernardino Mountains to the saltwater Salton Sea, the largest lake in California. It is approximately 15 miles wide along most of its length, bounded on the west by the San Jacinto Mountains and Santa Rosa Mountains, and on the north and east by the Little San Bernardino Mountains.
The San Andreas Fault crosses the valley from the Chocolate Mountains in the southeast corner and runs along the centerline of the Little San Bernardinos.
