Diablo Grande (Legends)
Diablo Grande Golf & Country Club (Legends course): GOLF COURSE WAS CLOSED IN 2014. The club's Ranch course remained open until 2020, when it too closed. As of 2024, both courses remain closed.
[Original Where2Golf description]: Diablo Grande (in English "Great Devil") boasts two excellent championship courses. Quietly tucked away in the folding, grassy foothills of the Diablo Range, the Legends West course is one of Northern California's best and most scenic layouts.
After a couple of holes flanked by unobtrusive housing, this out-and-back design takes you deep into the former, historic Oak Flat Ranch (you'll see some artefacts, former buildings and wind pumps along the way). Here sheep and cattle still graze on the uninhabited hills of the Diablo Range, which provide a fabulous backdrop to this inspired Nicklaus/Sarazen design. At the farthest end of the course, around "the turn", the scenery is as stunning and natural as you'll find on any inland golf course.
Expansively laid out on generally open, undulating terrain, and surrounded on all sides by rolling hillsides, grassy canyons and a scattering of blue oaks, every hole will enthral and challenge in equal measure. Although the fairways are forgiving, the small greens require touch and imagination, while the deep and numerous bunkers can be punishing if approach shots are wayward.
Water hazards threaten on about half the holes, more so on the front-nine, where creeks, wetland areas and reed-lined ponds come into play. The par-3 4th demands a tee to green carry over water. Make sure you play Legends West before anyone decides to build any more property out here - it is a uniquely natural and exquisitely peaceful environment for golf.
Course permanently closed in 2014.
Walking permitted.

Diablo Grande is the vision of Donald Panoz, the creator of a worldwide pharmaceuticals business. The master-planned community, resort and winery of Diablo Grande, was originally planned to have six golf courses, a luxury hotel and over 5,000 homes. Two of the golf courses (now both closed), the Legends and the Ranch, were built along with many of the homes.
Diablo Grande is located in the foothills of the Diablo Range, which is part of the Pacific Coastal Ranges in California. The Diablo Range is a largely uninhabited range of hills and mountains stretching almost 200 miles along the west side of the San Joaquin Valley. San Benito Mountain is the range's highest point at an elevation of 5,241 ft (1,597 m).
