Desert Falls
Desert Falls Country Club: Located in Palm Desert, which boasts one of the world's biggest concentrations of top quality golf courses, Desert Falls is a private country club that opens its doors to visiting golfers.
Excellently designed by Ron Fream, this thoroughly enjoyable test of golf gets a slope rating of 145, putting it among the five toughest courses in the Coachella Valley - if attempted from the back tees. Although situated at the heart of a residential community, the uniformly white-walled, two-storey houses are only visible around the outside perimeter of the course, allowing most of the layout to retain a wonderfully natural, open and gently undulating feel. Tall pines, palms and other tree varieties are pleasantly dotted alongside the fairways and around the greens, while menacing water hazards threaten on six or seven holes.
The excellent par-5 9th and par-4 18th skirt either side of a small lake as they journey towards a large double-green, in front of which stylish bunkering and a tumbling water feature await any wayward approach shots. Where water is not present alongside the fairways, then a plethora of innovatively-styled, large, sprawling bunkers will be.
Adding to the attractiveness of this classic, resort-style layout, the Coachella Valley's impressive mountain ranges provide a scenic backdrop to many of the holes.
Desert Falls is a semi-private golf club with some availability for outside visitor play.
