Coyote Creek (T'ment)
Coyote Creek Golf Club (Tournament course): Nestling down in the picturesque northern section of the Santa Clara valley (also known as Silicon Valley), the excellent golf facilities at Coyote Creek include two championship courses.
The Nicklaus-designed Tournament course, straddles Hwy 101. After a testing par-4 opener played on the clubhouse side, you cross under the freeway to the tightly-folding lower slopes of the Diablo range. Here, several testing holes make excellent use of the undulating terrain.
In this very scenic and challenging opening stretch, your approach shots will need to carry over grassy creeks to find the safety of the usually large and sloping greens. A scattering of mature oak trees also make their presence felt, adding to the demands of those testing approach shots.
The back-nine is played in a less undulating environment on the clubhouse side of the freeway, where excellent bunkering continues to threaten, but where the fairway landing areas will feel more generous than on the front-nine.
Dry creeks also play their part on some back-nine holes, although it is on the final duo that water really enters the picture. A small lake wraps around three sides of the par-5 17th green, while a series of lakes hug the rightside of the signature 18th hole. An accurate tee shot, carried over the first two lakes, is rewarded by a short iron approach over the final lake, which fronts the 18th green.
Although Hwy 101 is never too far away, it doesn't overly intrude on your enjoyment of this well-maintained, housing-free golf course and the picturesque Santa Clara valley views it provides.
