Troon North (Monument)
Troon North Golf Club (Monument course): While remaining one of the best layouts in Scottsdale, Troon North's excellent Monument course has, in some respects, been eclipsed by its younger sibling, the Pinnacle course. Some would argue the Monument is a fraction more forgiving than its stablemate, but that's debatable.
Excellently maintained and a true aristocrat amongst Scottsdale's many offerings, the Monument remains a wonderful test of golf. This desert layout demands excellent shot placement from the tee and accurate approach work as you home in on well-bunkered, large and fast greens.
On several occasions the desert-lined slivers of fairway can look intimidatingly tight, although a tad less daunting than some on the Pinnacle course. Once you get to know the course, you'll discover there's actually more room for your drives than at first appears.
The Monument contains fewer elevation changes than its sibling, and more housing around the course. At times the real estate obscures the views onto the surrounding boulder-clad hills and further afield to rugged mountain ranges.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
