Gold Canyon Golf Resort (Sidewinder course)

3-star: Good course – an enjoyable test for your game.

Est. 1982

Gold Canyon's Sidewinder course doesn't quite deliver the golfing punch or scenic splendour of the club's more revered Dinosaur Mountain layout. It does however offer a pleasant and good-quality round, without quite so many elevation changes and fewer dramatic desert-mountain holes.

Although more of the Sidewinder course is routed through housing and the elevation changes are less pronounced, it still lays down a good test for your all round game. Either as a warm-up for the bigger challenge of Dinosaur Mountain, or for a more relaxed round, the desert-style Sidewinder has its share of attractive holes and scenic vistas.

Just make sure that after the 12th hole you don't inadvertently cross-over to the neighbouring Mountain Brook Golf Club layout, which passes just a few yards away.

Did you know?

The courses at Gold Canyon are laid out in close proximity to the Superstition Mountains, a wilderness area that is a popular hiking and recreation destination in the Phoenix area.

One of the most popular attractions in Gold Canyon (sometimes referred to as Gold Camp, and lying southeast of the town of Apache Junction), is the Apache Trail. This scenic drive embraces some of the area's fascinating historic past (including gold mining). The Trail winds through the Superstition Mountains, offering spectacular mountain scenery and views onto Sonoran Desert.
