Emerald Canyon Golf Course

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1989

Emerald Canyon Golf Course: Also known as La Paz County's "Jewel in the Desert", Emerald Canyon is certainly one of Arizona's most scenic and, for a few holes, tightest layouts. Many of the opening and closing holes on each nine are laid out on flattish terrain, close to the mighty Colorado River, although not directly alongside it.

The scenic splendour and challenges of the course reach their climax in the middle section of each nine. As you pass under Hwy 95, to play the 4th, 5th and 6th holes, and then again for the 15th, 16th and 17th, you enter a dramatically undulating area of small, tightly-folding hills, a wonderfully natural area of pristine desert terrain.

Here you will feel at one with the rugged, undulating desert, as will your golf ball if you can't deliver the accurate drives that several of the holes demand. The sides of the canyons may provide welcome assistance as you thread your way through this wonderfully scenic and craggy environment.

For most of the time you'll enjoy generally good-width fairways and a clear view of any trouble ahead. Although by no means absent, bunkering and water hazards are sparingly used, giving some good birdie opportunities especially for straight hitters.

With the excellently maintained emerald green fairways contrasting with the surrounding reddy-brown rocks, cliffs and canyons, this wonderful golf course on the western edge of Arizona is guaranteed to leave a lasting and usually very positive impression. If you are in the area, don't miss it!

Did you know?

Just 25 miles north of Emerald Canyon lies the lakeside resort of Lake Havasu City. The lake was created following the construction of the Parker Dam, on the Colorado River. Renowned as a lively vacation resort, Lake Havasu City also boasts one of the oldest structures in the west, the original London Bridge, imported stone by stone from England.

The bridge was originally constructed in London in 1831. By the 1960's it was no longer structurally sound and was deemed unable to support the level of traffic crossing it. The City of London sold it to Robert McCulloch, the founder of Lake Havasu and chairman of McCulloch Oil Corporation.

The bridge's facing stones were carefully disassembled, numbered and eventually shipped to the bridge's present location, where re-assembly began in 1968. The original facing stones were fixed to a new concrete structure, with completion and opening in late 1971.
