Arizona National Golf Club

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1996

Arizona National Golf Club (formerly known as Raven Club at Sabino Springs): Spectacular views and plenty of elevation change is commonplace on this excellent desert-style course, which nestles in the foothills of the Santa Catalina mountains. The layout is fair, but always challenging, with many superbly plunging holes played from elevated tees.

Beyond the fairways you will often encounter dense desert foliage, so accuracy is a major factor on several drives and approach shots. Although not as manicured as some, the feel here is wonderfully natural with any housing set well back from the course itself.

For most of the time the layout follows the rugged natural flow of the land across shady mesquite-lined arroyos, while often skirted by craggy rock outcroppings. This is another great desert-style course that ranks alongside Tucson's best.
