Ross Bridge (RTJ Trail)
RTJ Golf Trail at Ross Bridge: this relatively recent addition to Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is arguably the best ... a big dimension course in which an outstanding and visually impressive layout combines with beautiful lakeside and woodland scenery.
Water, in the form of good-sized and sometimes steep-sided lakes, will be a menacing companion for over half the holes - from the challenging opening par-5 through to the closing, lake-hugging par-4.
The constantly undulating terrain here is nicely broken up by tall pine trees, which are sufficiently spaced to allow you to see through to other parts of this wonderful course. The large and occasionally super-size greens are fast and full slopes and borrows - a real test of your putting game and nerve.
With additional "on course" features such as a working watermill, which doubles as the restrooms at the across-the-water par-3 4th, and a tumbling waterfall splitting the 9th and 18th greens, Ross Bridge quickly established itself as a must play Alabama course. Occasional housing plots do not seem to intrude into the naturalness of the surroundings here, and the turreted Renaissance hotel also fits well with its surroundings.

Excellent
Every evening at Ross Bridge a piper strolls the grounds, reminding us of the Scottish origins of the Royal & Ancient game.
In 2007 Ross Bridge hosted its first top level tournament, the US PGA Champions Tour Regions Charity Classic (see Tournament details >by Venue).
Not only does the GPS system on the carts give you information about the course, and your exact location on it, but it also keeps you up-to-date with all the latest sports scores via a CBS Sportsdesk information feed.
Ross Bridge itself lies just beyond the course. It is a stone bridge dating from before the Civil War, which reputedly proved its indestructibility when it withstood Yankee attempts to blow it up.
