Santiburi Chiang Rai
Santiburi Country Club Chiang Rai is home to a skilfully designed and enjoyably testing Robert Trent Jones Jr. layout. Combined with its beautiful natural surroundings, the course ranks with the best in Thailand's most northerly provinces of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
A large meandering lake ensures the flattish front-nine is something of a trial by water. All but the downhill par-5 1st and par-3 7th are threatened in some way by the lake. The more undulating back-nine is less water defended (until the final pair), but no less challenging.
Bunkering throughout, whether it be sand or grass, is top-class. The often large sloping greens are a challenge unto themselves. After the short par-3 signature hole at 17, water and a proliferation of bunkers closes the round out, at the very good snaking par-5 18th. Definitely a course not to be missed if you are visiting northern Thailand.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
