Pattana Golf Club & Resort: Created as a memorial to Dr Pattana (see Did You Know section below), the 27-hole course which carries his name is fully imbued with his passion for golf. It also includes one or two idiosyncrasies, for which he was also well known (for example, he putted one-handed).
This 100% Thai-owned, designed and constructed project has produced an ambitious and exciting 27-hole golf course. Once you get used to trees in the middle of some fairways, you can get on and enjoy the many positives of this pleasantly undulating and relatively open layout.
Water is skilfully used to challenge and test both tee and approach shots, never more so than on the Brookei's par-4 1st, where water awaits anything hit left or right from the tee. Sizeable earthmounding has created elevated greens with the opportunity for correspondingly deep bunkering. Rather than sand-traps, mini grass volcanoes as well as water guard the par-3 8th hole on Andreas.
In addition to coping with a few centre-of-fairway tree plantings, there are some other eye-catching features dotted around the course. A helipad surrounded by a good-sized lake provides the central feature around which the Brookei-nine is laid out. The 5th hole on the Andreas-nine, a 663-yard par-6, is more of a long slog than an appealingly aesthetic hole. Its soul-mate, the 9th on the Brookei-nine (previously a par-6, now a par-5) stretches to an also intimidating 626-yards.
Some of the greens here at Pattana are home to extravagant undulations; the final green on the Calypso-nine caters to pin positions from which it is almost impossible to hole-out. With many mixed revues, and its undoubted share of golfing curios, Pattana is certainly a golf course to try at least once. Like Dr Pattana and the game itself, you may just develop an intense passion for it.

Good
The golf course carries the name of Dr Pattana, the first President of Thailand's Summit Group of Companies. This now diverse business conglomerate was primarily built on the manufacture of spare parts for automobiles. Dr Pattana died in his golfing prime at age 56.
His widow, Dr Somporn Juengrungruangkit, also an avid golfer, decided that a fitting memorial to Dr Pattana should be closely related to the game they loved. And so the Pattana Sports Club was established - "the ultimate all-round sports club in Thailand".
Pattana's clubhouse contains many charming and enduring features. To the right of the clubhouse Dr. Pattana is sizing up a tee-shot, and holding the last driver he used. Another statue reminds us of his one-handed putting style. The fabulous 5-star clubhouse itself is solidly built of stone, made to last for an eternity.
The three out-and-back nine-hole loops are named after different types of cactus (Andreas, Brookei and Calypso), a plant that personifies strength and endurance.
