Mountain Shadow
Mountain Shadow Golf Club: Literally in the shadow of a jungle-clad ridge of hills, this is a well laid out and very pleasant golf course. But its also one that will test your accuracy from the tee and quality of approach work, like few others in the greater Bangkok area. With palms and other tree varieties narrowing the holes down on many occasions, the gently rolling fairways are as tight as you will experience in these parts.
Water enters the equation as early as the par-5 3rd. Carries over water to boulder-fronted greens, are a feature of all the par-3s and several of the par-5s. The par-3 17th is a rather unique signature hole, with two separate tee-ing grounds and two separate greens. Either teeing ground can be used to play to either of the greens. Whatever combination is in play, a carry over a picturesque lily-filled water feature will be required.
The greens here are often slightly elevated, with clinging grassy earthmounded surrounds, and slopes and borrows on the putting surfaces that rarely makes "getting down in two" a certainty. Bunkering is used sparingly, but when sand traps are present, you'll find them strategically placed and attracting their fair share of visitors.
When we visited the water hazards (with the exception of the pond at the 17th) were only half filled with water, detracting from their visual appeal. This "lack" of water seemed symptomatic of (at the time) a less than perfect overall presentation, of what is otherwise a strong and enjoyable layout.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.
Non-metal spike facility. Golf carts available for hire. Caddies used by all players.
