Cascata Golf Club is home to a relative newcomer in Bangkok's seemingly endless supply of excellent quality golf courses. Predominantly designed by its owner, the current A & B nines was joined in 2008 by a third nine hole loop. This final piece in the 27-hole jigsaw offers an even more open layout than the existing A & B nines, but also one that incorporates many undulations, and a great deal of water.
The original 18-hole layout is dotted with trees yet to reach full maturity, although the general feel is open and expansive, with limited protection from the wind, which can certainly be a factor. The longer front-nine introduces you to ever-present water hazards, opening with a short, tightly dog-legging par-4 and then a testing, water-protected par-3 (where an over-sized wine bottle further reinforces the course's European connections).
As you progress into this relatively flat and open terrain, the significant bunkering and abundance of water becomes less threatening, particularly as you become acclimatised to Cascata's good-width fairways and often impressively long greens (long but maybe not so wide!).
With the A-course conquered (!) there are chances to relax a bit more on the slightly easier-going B-course. The A & C combination will probably host the bigger competitions in the future. This combination will stretch to over 7400 yards from the tips and is guaranteed to test the best.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends. Closed Mondays.
Must book in advance.
Non-metal spike facility. Golf carts compulsory for visitors. Caddies used by all players.
Good
Cascata gets its Italian name from the cascades of water that run down from nearby hills, providing the course with its plentiful supply of water.
The impressive Mediterranean-style clubhouse is certainly a luxurious starting and finishing point for your round of golf at Cascata. Thai, Japanese, Chinese and western cuisine is served in the excellent restaurant.
