From the Johannesburg Western Bypass (N1) take the R512 (Hans Strijdom Road) direction Lanseria Airport / Haartbeespoort Dam. Follow the R512 past Lanseria airport. Approx 18 km after Lanseria, turn left at T-junction, where the R512 joins with the R104 (from Pretoria). After approx 7 km Pecanwood will be on your right. Pecanwood is located on the southern shore of Hartbeespoort Dam.
Pecanwood
Pecanwood Golf & Country Club: Located within the Pecanwood Residential Estate on the shores of the impressive Hartbeespoort Dam, this Jack Nicklaus designed golf course will test and entertain in equal measure.
The terrain here is relatively open and modestly undulating, with many Pecan trees yet to fully mature. Providing you can stay out of the huge number and array of sand bunkers, and cope with the large, sloping and well-paced greens, building a good score should be on the cards. The often generous width fairways and not overly penal semi-rough will encourage big-hitters to "open their shoulders".
Water hazards are not as prolific as on some Nicklaus layouts, although the par-4 14th and 15th holes are wrapped in opposite directions around the same small lake - not a place to hook the ball.
The course effortlessly weaves its way through the estate housing, which is generally out of reach of wayward drives, with large sandy waste areas, fairway cross bunkers and deeper greenside bunkers all adding to this stylish and well-maintained layout. Pecanwood is well worth a visit, especially if you also do a bit of sightseeing around the Dam - the largest expanse of water within a 50km radius of Jo'burg and Pretoria.
Pick of the holes: The par-5 12th hole brings you down to the shoreline of the Dam, while the signature par-3 13th requires a well directed shot over a corner of the Dam. The par-3 17th and tee-box of the heavily bunkered par-4 18th also provide great views onto the Dam, and beyond to the spectacular red ridges of the Magaliesberg Mountains.

The Pecanwood Estate is located on the south side of the famous Hartbeespoort Dam, about 50km north-west of Johannesburg and 35km west of Pretoria. The Dam was constructed in 1925 and its shoreline measures about 56km.
Surrounded by the scenic Magaliesberg mountain range, the Dam is a popular destination for weekend getaways and day trips. Many water sports may be enjoyed here, as well as scenic drives, challenging hikes and gentle rambles. The village of Hartbeespoort is situated along the shores of the dam, among undulating hills, giving panoramic views onto the dam.
At Pecanwood's halfway house the steak pies must be some of the biggest in South Africa!
