Clovelly
Clovelly Golf Club: Clovelly is known throughout the Cape as one of its "lesser known gems", an enjoyable and picturesque golf course, located within the Silvermine River valley. Flanked by the Kalk Bay Mountains on one side, and fynbos-covered sand dunes on the other, this natural, quiet and well laid out course is popular with local golfers and overseas visitors alike.
Although a tad shorter than some courses, Clovelly presents a thoroughly absorbing challenge, with many excellent dog-legging holes and well-protected par-3s. Water threatens on a few occasions, not least at the very good par-4 4th hole.
The course is exposed to prevailing winds from the Atlantic Ocean, which frequently blow up the valley from nearby Fish Hoek Bay (a small corner of the expansive False Bay). With the wind often playing its part, your main focus will need to be on accurate driving from the tee, which can then set-up attacking approach opportunities to the large and well-maintained greens.
As the course serenely meanders along its mainly tree-lined fairways, there is much to admire in terms of surrounding scenery, and the flora and fauna on the course itself. From the more elevated holes, which climb to and from the clubhouse perched above the course, there are occasional glimpses of the Ocean, while the towering ridge of the Kalk Bay hills provides an impressive backdrop to the north.

The Clovelly Golf Links was originally a nine hole course, used by naval officers stationed at the nearby Simonstown base, and a number of enthusiastic golfers from the area. It was several years after the Great Depression of the late 1920's that Clovelly was rescued from closure by two entrepreneurs Gus Ackerman and Michael Pevsner who purchased the property, the farm "Klein Tuin", for the sum of £3,000. In 1932 they formed the Clovelly Country Club which was officially opened in 1934.
