Raffles CC (Lake)
Raffles Country Club (Lake course): GOLF COURSE WAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED IN 2018 to make way for the Singapore-KL High-Speed Rail project.
[Original Where2Golf description]: Named after Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore, Raffles Country Club boasts two excellent and contrasting 18-hole championship layouts. (Sadly both courses will close by July 2018 - see Did You Know section below). The Lake course is predominantly played alongside the expansive Tengeh Reservoir, with jungle-clad hills in the background, and Malaysia occasionally in view across the Selat Johor (Straights of Johor).
Like its companion (Palm course), some traffic noise intrudes onto the Lake course, more so on the front-nine. However, for most of the time the rush and tear of modern-day life melts away into the background - the tranquillity of this fabulous lakeside environment getting the upper-hand. Although only 6,600 yards from the back tees, this impressive and relatively open design comprises a longer but easier-going front-nine (par-37), with a shorter, tighter and more technical back-nine (par-35). The gentle earthmounding, good-width fairways and absence of penal rough may initially look inviting, but the key requirement here is to avoid the many water hazards and abundant fairway and greenside bunkers.
The more scenic back-nine, with many fabulous lakeside holes, will test your accuracy from the tee and probe your short game around the elevated greens. The excellent par-3 16th requires a well-judged carry across the corner of the lake, which threatens from tee to green. Even with occasional glimpses of the Tiger Brewery and Singapore-Malaysia border check-point, it is the serenity of the lakeside setting and excellent layout that gives the Lake course its high ranking amongst Singapore's elite.
Course is permanently closed.

In the early 19th century, he led the transformation of Singapore from a fishing village into one of the most important colonial hubs in the British Empire's supply chain.
