The Glen Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1906

The Glen Golf Club: The tough climb at the par-4 first will not just clear your lungs, it also brings you to an elevated level above the sea, where you'll play most of the holes on North Berwick's wonderful "East Links".

The views here are simply stunning, whether they be back across the town and towards North Berwick's pudding-shaped hill (called The Law), or over to the ruins of Tantallon Castle (from the 8th tee) or out across the Firth of Forth to the imposing Bass Rock, a view you'll enjoy from most holes.

The blind par-3 13th is one of those holes to cherish - a little jewel, which may require a pitching-wedge or a 3-iron depending on what the wind is doing. Short maybe, but don't miss this gem of a course - Pebble Beach without the glitz and glam, and a par-4 18th that would happily fit in at Pebble!

Did you know?

Golf was first played in North Berwick on the "East Links" as far back as the late 1600s (the same is likely to have been the case on the town's "West Links" ... now North Berwick GC). The first official record of golf activity in North Berwick is contained in the town's Council Minutes in 1728.

A private nine-hole course (known as the Rhodes Links) was laid out to the east of North Berwick in 1894. When the popularity of golf boomed in the late 1800s, an extension of the nine holes to 18 was inevitable. The expansion was spearheaded by the Town Council. In 1906 the North Berwick Corporation Golf Club was formed, and the new 18-hole course, designed by James Braid and Ben Sayers, formally opened in 1908. In 1930 the Club was renamed the Glen Golf Club.

Never far from view from the course is the impressive Bass Rock, one of the world's most renowned bird sanctuaries.
